Prickly Pear Fanfare (2023)
4’
Trombone Choir (8 Trombones)
Written for the Texas A&M University- Kingsville Full Trombone Choir, directed by Dr. Oscar Diaz, Jr. Premiered 5/30/2024 by this ensemble at the International Trombone Festival in Fort Worth, TX.
The piece is an homage to the friends I’ve made as well as the cultural and philosophical principles to which I’ve been exposed since moving from my hometown of Boise, Idaho, to Kingsville, Texas, about two hours north of the Mexican border. It blends conventional fanfare expectations with stylings of Mariachi and was composed using the pitch-class set 9-5-6, the area code for the Rio Grande Valley (home of the best tacos on the planet).
NOTICE: Purchase includes both score and parts.
