This piece follows the storyline of “The Pardoner’s Tale” from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. It is appropriate for any collegiate or professional trombone quartet. It is highly rhythmic and commonly utilizes quartal/quintal and extended harmonies as well as a recurring “death” chord (C#, A, E, B). There are many dissonant moments, so be mindful of correct pitches and ensemble balance.
